As another day goes by, another night falls over us. The crimson and gold streaks of twilight now replaced by the deep blue and black of the night. The night sky is streaked by the bright and menacing glow of battle and cataclysms beneath the sky, resetting the colors of night with shades of blood and flame. There is no way to simplify these events; this world has started to meet its end. Mountains crumbling and falling beneath the surface of the earth, vast storms with unnatural levels of ferocity and destruction, all pull the planet apart at its very seams like tattered pages of a story in the wind. As the planet's death throes resonate through the sky like the requiem of a dying giant, a mysterious figure soars through the air upon a flying manta. He is an enigmatic being, presented with a shaman-like appearance. The antlers upon his head are intricately decorated with various charms and wind chimes, gently blowing in the wind above his head. He looks on at the events below with an almost indifferent air about him upon his magical mount, almost lazily circling the area beneath them. His instrument clutched in his hands, is played with a tune that seems to soothe at first, but then a sharp tune is played as if it emulates the destructive forces displayed before it on the world below. Feeling nothing as his song comes to a conclusion, he resumes riding the wind through the notes of his song fading into the night like the memories of this world. God of the Last song, created by the artist *Grey-Seagull, presents us with a fantastical image of a world in its final moments while a strange being oversees the world as it starts to collapse upon itself once and for all.

I do have to say that there is much to take in on this piece and it really displays everything excellently. From the cracked earth exposing the molten light of magma below, to the powerful thunderstorms in the distance scarring the sky. The detailing on the primary subjects of the image carries an illuminating amount of detail upon their compositional forms. A good use of skin shading and illumination under the environmental lighting, micro details placed into the elements of their appearance and a distinctive style to their designs just make all of their elements shine forth. Atmospheric tone is also presenting quite a nice display as well. The tone is dark and dramatic, perfectly setting the stage for the entire scene, with each and every destructive scene element calling out toward the viewer in an almost chorus tuned, as if you're watching a requiem unfold; each and every note that is played crashes a more powerful force to destroy more of the landscape. All of the elements of the composition works so well together and make the viewer feel as if they are watching all of the events unfold before them in motion. Each and every crash of thunder and each fireball that illuminates the sky, it’s all very well done and presents quite a bit of personality in this piece.

Now while the elements are working well and much of the presentation looks amazing, there are still a few things that could be done to make this piece stand out. For one thing, while the detailing on the musician and his flying manta look great, the same attention has not quite been given to the rest of the landscape. Some of the landscape has some nice coloring to it, but lack the great sense of textural detail one would expect to see in a piece like this. Another thing that could be fixed would be some parts of the atmosphere and skies' appearance. Some of the glowing light emanating from the musician and the manta look good and build on to the piece, but others look as if they could be more translucent and sharpened, thereby granting a better view of the depth onto the piece. Also, some of the clouds in the distance could do with a bit of extra touching up as they appear a bit flat in some parts of the image. Keep experimenting with these elements and see what you can come up with in the image. Remember this piece looks good, but it could look even better.

A scar of destruction and the impending doom of a world is always a dramatic scene to behold. However, when captured properly it can truly shine forth as a sight of beauty. <i<God of the Last song is a great example of this very statement. There is much more to take in with this piece and it all swims together within the mind of the viewer, as if they too are cascading through the scorched sky upon this mystic mantis and its musical rider. While there are a few small blemishes, there is very little to distract one from its overall quality and beauty. Great job *Grey-Seagull!
